INTRODUCTION

We are in the habit of producing a book each year, with profits going to St. Piran’s Church, Perranarworthal. The Treasurer’s Challenge was the first and it continues to be on sale. ‘Piran’s Pantry’ is our second effort.

I am in no doubt that eating is one of life’s great pleasures, especially if it is with friends, family and loved ones. Life has other pleasures, of course, but for now we’ll restrict ourselves to foodie delights.

The recipes are many and varied, in style, content, method and historical context. In many cases, family stories and anecdotes accompany the recipes, just to add flavour! Also, there, is spacing between recipes so that you can make your own notes or even get the person concerned to sign it. Build a personalized walk through your own food heaven.

My thanks to all who have contributed to this collection. I hope you have many happy hours using the recipes and ideas, and even more satisfaction consuming your concoctions. Paul Stuart

POETIC TASTER

First select a little recipe

From the cornucopia of time

Sprinkle with a dash of memory

(This is the touch that makes the dish sublime)

Mix the ingredients above

Pass through the sieve of brevity

Add – if wished – a pinch of levity

Then, without more apology,

Set in a prepared anthology

And serve with love.
